For the talented and curious, an internship is just a milestone on the way to great achievements. But what if you want to get not just a line on your resume, but an interesting and versatile experience to better define your own career preferences? Alisa Lygina, a student at the Higher School of Economics and now a full-time employee of the branding and communications department of Hilti shared her story of professional self-discovery, which began during the summer holidays and continues to this day.
Did your Hilti internship meet your expectations?
I will say more: the experience gained here exceeded all my expectations. Already in the first weeks of work, it became obvious to me that a month and a half at Hilti will give me much more knowledge and practical experience than a whole year spent at the university. The company is very large, with an impressive staff, so it was a little scary that I would be left to fend for myself, put in to do monotonous work, and deal with unnecessary documents. No matter how it is! I could not imagine how many new and interesting things await me. As an assistant, I managed to work as an interviewer, editor, and translator in one person. I was amazed at how much attention was paid to the question of my preferred work schedule and the functional content of the internship.
Why did you decide to stay with the company?
It may sound trite, but you want to come back here again and again. An internship at Hilti is an incredible number of people, ideas, projects, and opportunities. It is difficult to single out something specific, because, while undergoing an internship here, I felt like a full-fledged employee of the company, who is completely immersed in the atmosphere of a common cause. Therefore, having completed my “mission” as an intern, I realized that I absolutely did not want to leave the team and would happily take on new projects as a full-time employee.
What has changed since you changed your status at Hilti?
The only difference between an intern and other employees is the lack of a permanent pass (smiles). And this once again emphasizes that, despite the position of an intern, many processes in the company depend on you. So, while working here, I still develop not only as a specialist in one narrow field but also acquire skills in a wide range of professions. This approach is literally a gift to everyone who, like me, cannot decide on one type of activity and wants to know himself.
What are the Hilti Trainee Requirements?
For many, an intern is someone who passes a probationary period at a new job under the scrutiny of their superiors. For Hilti, an intern is a “fresh perspective” on the business and approach to solving the various problems of the company, which from the first day is surrounded by care, attention, and high expectations. That is why you must be disciplined and attentive to work to show your best side and not let anyone down. You need to be active and curious, always strive for victory. Even if something is not clear, it is not a problem if you are really interested in the work.
